SGR - Who we are

South Gwent Ramblers (SGR)

We are a group of friendly folk who enjoy walking. We find that our home County, Gwent, is blessed with marvellous scenery which is often overlooked in favour of the mountains. Our walks can open your eyes to the both Gwent and the mountains. We usually call ourselves the SGR.

We organise guided walks to suit a wide range of abilities. On walks, dogs must be held on a short lead at all times. Before bringing a dog, please read the Dogs on Walks page.

Since we are a sociable bunch, we also organise other events and activities throughout the year.

There are walks almost every weekend and some midweek ones as well, all led by our volunteers. RA members and non members, new walkers and experienced walkers are all welcome to come and enjoy the walks with us. There is no charge for walks. For more details about us and our activities, use the green menu bar above to explore our site.

There is no point in organising walks and walking activities if there is no access to paths or open countryside. We therefore work with the public and with local authorities to help solve footpath problems and to survey and clear footpaths. For more about footpath activity, use the Footpaths menu above.

We are a local group of the Ramblers Association, supporting national campaigns and assisting them when we can. Ramblers Welsh site is full of information with a Welsh flavour.

Many photos, mostly from our walks can be found under the Galleries menu.

We enjoy walking and hope you will as well.
